Foreign diploma

Did you graduate abroad? Sometimes (part of) your student debt can be converted into a gift if you obtain a foreign diploma. However, this does not happen automatically.

Send your diploma and list of marks

1. Send a certified copy

   A certified copy is a copy with a stamp and signature to prove that it corresponds with the original. You can have a certified copy made at your school or university, or at one of our Service Desks. Please bring your original diploma and list of marks.

2. DUO will assess if you are eligible for reduction or cancellation of your student debt.
3. You will receive a notice as soon as your diploma has been registered. This notice also mentions any consequences for your student debt.

Studied in Belgium

Sometimes you only need to send a letter, without a certified copy.

1. Check if your school or university is on the list of schools that exchange diplomas digitally.
2. If your school is on the list, send us a letter mentioning:
   • the date you obtained your diploma
   • your school or university
   • your study programme
3. Use the address mentioned elsewhere on this page. You do not need to include a certified copy of your diploma.
4. DUO will assess if you are eligible for reduction or cancellation of your student debt.
